About CAB

What is CAB?

Community

Charity Auction Ball (CAB) is Northwestern Kellogg School of Management's largest philanthropy fundraising event! Each year, we connect with Chicagoland non-profits and the student body votes to select three organizations to share the CAB grant. The entire Kellogg community comes together - students, faculty, alumni, and local business alike - to donate their time, talents, services, and one-of-a-kind items for the CAB auction. During our namesake event, The Charity Auction Ball, over 200 donations are bid on in a live auction, raising over $100,000 by the end of the night!

Tradition

CAB is an annual tradition fueled by the creativity and diversity of our community. Beyond traditional silent auction items, our community donates their time and talents to create unique experiences. Think of personal experiences with faculty, like an opportunity to get your nails done with Dean Cornelli or receive career advice from Professor Carter Cast. Events donated by students range from skill-based, like learning to make tiramisu from our resident Le Cordon Bleu-trained peer, to cultural celebrations, like a pretend Indian wedding for you and 10 friends. These donations raise an average of $50 per winning bid (per person).

Impact

By donating and bidding on items in the CAB auction, we continue to make an impact on our local community. Past recipients have received $25-$35K in unrestricted funds from CAB proceeds. Some of our past non-profit partners include: Chicago HOPES for Kids, The Josselyn Center, Blessings in a Backpack, and GirlForward.

What is CAB Preview?

CAB Preview is a way to get excited about Charity Auction Ball (CAB) and start learning the ins-and-outs of the bidding process. We auction off a number of events and items donated by students, faculty, alumni, and Chicagoland partners that you can bid on, just like the real CAB (only fewer donation items). All proceeds from the auction will benefit our non-profit partners.
